BRAZIL ELECTION 2026 PREDICTIONS

After the First Round. Less than 48 hours after the first round of the election, we are already beginning to see the outlines of what Brazil and the world can expect if Flávio Bolsonaro wins on October 25. (Spoiler: It doesn’t look good.)

1) Jair Bolsonaro to be released? Supreme Court Justice Nunes Marques, appointed by Jair Bolsonaro (and, by the way, deeply involved in the Banco Master scandal), is now trying to have coup-convicted Jair Bolsonaro released as early as this year, so that he could enter the presidential palace together with his son Flávio, should Flávio be elected.

2) End of the five-day working week? The opposition, led by Bolsonaro’s Partido Liberal (PL), is now stepping up its efforts to sabotage the Lula government’s proposal for a five-day working week. The proposal has strong support among the population, but Flávio and the PL would rather allow the current six-day working-week system to continue.

And all of this is happening BEFORE the presidential election has even been decided. Encouraged by their strong results in Congress and in the states, Flávio and his allies are now pushing forward aggressively. If anyone believes that a more moderate Bolsonaro is running for president this year, unfortunately, that is mistaken.

Flávio has a more polished public image and a less extreme style of political discourse, but the political project is essentially the same. The Bolsonaro family wants a Brazil that combines the concentration of power and the lies of Donald Trump’s USA, the security policies and militarisation of Nayib Bukele’s El Salvador, and the economic policies of Javier Milei’s Argentina.
