According to Turkey's defense minister, Ukraine and Russia have made progress in trying to solve the problem of transporting grain out of Ukraine.

The aim of the grain talks is to put in place an agreement that allows the grain to be transported out of Ukrainian ports and safely through the Black Sea. Akar says that the delegations agree on "joint controls" at the ports and on methods to ensure that the supply routes in the Black Sea are safe.

A final agreement to export an estimated 20 to 25 million tonnes of grain, which is now stuck in Ukrainian ports, could be nailed down next week, Akar signaled tonight.
