Surprise, surprise. Fury in Ukraine as government attacks anti-corruption watchdogs. President Zelensky tightens grip. Few MPs could recall such an important law ever being rushed through so quickly.

The passage of Bill 12414 – which places Ukraine’s two main independent anti-corruption bodies under the presidentially appointed Prosecutor General in wartime – had the air of something done in a panic. The proposal was presented at a hastily convened committee meeting on 22 July at 08:00, at which neither the committee chairman nor the majority of the members were present. By the same afternoon, the law had been sent to the president for signature. Zelensky’s people had managed to mobilize enough votes to comfortably pass the law. (Quote from The Economist )

But he's your asshole, so you just have to live with it. You sang his praises – but then again, Time Magazine featured this guy too… in 1938.

And, in good 2024 tradition:

One wonders who will be next? The West and its media have a strange attraction to war criminals and other scum. Perhaps they recognize their own? I'm just waiting for The Economist and Time to start reporting on widespread pedophilia, crimes against humanity and decadence among the Western "elites". Oh, wait - The Economist and Time are part of that. No, what was I thinking. Naive me.

We can't help but publish this post from Andrei Martyanov's website. It's ironic and venomous, but also a good commentary on what's currently sparking demonstrations across Ukraine.
