Presenter Ciaran Jenkins delievered some breaking news as the Channel 4 news came to a close. As he wrapped up his broadcast he shared they had just received some news regarding Donald Trump's presidency. He told viewers: "And before we go in the last few minutes Donald Trump has said he isn't joking about staying in power for a third term even though the US constitution's 22nd Amendment forbids it."
Channel 4 News was halted in the last few seconds of its live broadcast with the announcement above coming from Donald Trump's Oval Office.
Ciaran then closed the show after making the announcement on Sunday evening. It comes after the US President confirmed his plans during earlier today. He refused to rule out the idea of seeking a constitutionally prohibited third term in office, telling NBC News’ Kristen Welker in a phone call that “there are methods” for doing so.
“You have to start by saying, I have the highest poll numbers of any Republican for the last 100 years,” Trump said.
He added, “We’re in the high 70s in many polls, in the real polls, and you see that. And, and you know, we’re very popular. And you know, a lot of people would like me to do that. But, I mean, I basically tell them, we have a long way to go, you know, it’s very early in the administration.”

His current term is due to end in 2029, however, the 22nd Amendment says "no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice".
It was added to the Constitution in 1951 after President Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected four times in a row.
