The meeting took place on Sunday morning, at the Palácio da Alvorada, when it was already known that Edmundo González had fled to Spain.

Shortly after the siege of the Argentine embassy in Caracas and the escape of opponent Edmundo González Urrutia, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) called advisors this Sunday (8) to discuss the situation in Venezuela and other issues on Brazil's foreign agenda, such as its participation in the UN General Assembly.

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Maria Laura da Rocha, and Audo Faleiro, right-hand man of President Lula's special advisor for international affairs, Celso Amorim, were at the Alvorada Palace in the morning.

Both Amorim and Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira are on international agendas. Celso Amorim is participating in a meeting of senior representatives responsible for security in the BRICS countries in Russia.

Vieira is now in transit from Oman to Saudi Arabia, where he will attend a meeting with the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Brazil is following the developments of the crisis in Venezuela and Nicolás Maduro's latest attempts to remain in power. President Lula was informed about the latest developments.
