Extremely dangerous heat
Extremely dangerous heat
Over 100 million Americans have been warned against the heat wave that will occur this week. It will probably be worst in the southwestern states.

- The heat will be extremely dangerous and potentially fatal, the American National Weather Service (NSW) writes in an update on Wednesday.
The national American weather forecaster is therefore issuing a clear and distinct warning before what is expected to be a very hot weekend in the southwest of the USA.
- An intense heat wave will build up late this week and through the weekend, and it is likely that several new heat records will be set, writes NWS.
They see several reasons why the coming heat will be particularly dangerous.
- The heat will be intense.
- The heat wave is going to last a long time.
- A relatively cool start to summer may have limited people's ability to acclimatize to more typical hot summer weather in this region.
Violent temperatures
The big city of Phoenix in Arizona is among the places that will get very hot temperatures this week and especially towards the weekend. Then the thermometer can creep up to 48 degrees in some places, reports the NWS.
- Temperatures will probably reach record-high levels this weekend. Be careful out there, and exercise caution, they write.
Similar temperatures are also expected in Las Vegas in Nevada and the authorities are also warning there about the extreme heat that is expected.
111 million notified
The heat is not just going to hit the southwest, and over 111 million Americans live in places where the US authorities have warned of extreme heat in the next few days.
Extreme heat is the weather phenomenon that takes the most lives in the United States during the course of a year, according to the NWS.
Preliminary figures such as Newsweek show that in 2022 there were over 1,700 deaths as a result of heat. It is a new record, according to the newspaper.
- Heat waves are what we expect in a warmer climate. We expect that several of these events will occur more frequently and more intensely. And this is just following that script, says Andrew Pershing, director of climate science at Climate Central, to Newsweek.
New "monster" on the way
The heat wave "Cerberus" is set to reach its peak on Friday. But just around the corner, a new high pressure awaits, which could take temperatures to new heights.

The heat wave "Cerberus", named after a three-headed monster that guards the gates of Hell in Dante's Inferno, is set to reach its peak on Friday, according to the British Met Office.
The high pressure has settled like a lid over large parts of southern Europe and led to very high temperatures.
On Wednesday, several countries, such as France, Switzerland, Germany, and Italy, recorded records of over 40 degrees, according to The Independent.
On Friday, large parts of the Mediterranean area can get temperatures up to 40 to 45 degrees, and possibly higher than that, writes the BBC.

"Charon" on its way
After the heat peak is probably reached on Friday, however, there will not be a long break. A new high-pressure front is on its way, and it could get even worse, according to the BBC.
Italian meteorologists have named the new heat wave after yet another mythological being. This time after "Charon", a ferryman who transported souls to the underworld.
The high pressure is expected to push temperatures up again - including in Rome, which could reach 43 degrees. In Sardinia, it can be as much as 47 degrees, writes the BBC.
In several large Italian cities, the health authorities believe that the heat is so intense that it poses a threat to everyone who stays there, and a danger warning has been issued at the red level, according to the Italian news agency Ansa.
The BBC writes that there is talk of a total of ten cities, including Rome, Bologna, and Florence.
It can be record hot
There is now speculation as to whether Europe's heat record from 2021 could be about to fall. At the time, 48.8 degrees were measured on the southern Italian island of Sicily, where temperatures are expected to reach similar levels in the coming time, according to The Independent.
- Hottest day ever
In Spain too, the heat wave has led to very high temperatures in several places. According to the Independent, satellite images taken on Tuesday showed that the surface temperature on the ground in some places reached as high as 60 degrees in the region of Extremadura, in the west of Spain.
The measurement was made by a radiometer for sea and surface temperatures, a so-called SLSTR instrument, which is part of the Copernicus Sentinel 3 satellites. They emphasize that these are surface temperatures, and must not be confused with air temperatures.
Maybe long-lasting
With "Charon's" arrival, there is no immediate end to the record heat in sight just yet.
On Wednesday, climate researcher Reidun Gangstø said that it is possible that the heat wave will last until August.
- So this is a rather powerful heat wave, she said.
"Heat dome" in Europe: Can be long-lasting
It is also powerful for being so early in the year, according to Gangstø.
- Heat waves are certainly a type of extreme weather and are a direct consequence of climate change. As the global temperature rises, it means that extreme temperatures will rise. New records are constantly being set, and it is a trend that we will see continue in the future, the climate scientist said.

Now it's getting colder
If you want to enjoy the fine weather, the last chance may be tomorrow before it turns. - Next week will be cooler, says the meteorologist.
By Dagbladet.no - Irene Dafinceska Naustdal - 15 July 2023 - 21:11
If you live in Troms or Finnmark, you might want to enjoy the nice weather on Sunday. Because from early next week, it will be cooler, not just in the north, but for the whole country, according to meteorologist on duty, Terje Alsvik Walløe, at the Meteorological Institute
- Arctic air blows down to southern Norway. The cool air will bring lower temperatures than it usually is in July. This applies to the whole country, but especially here in the south, Walløe tells Dagbladet.
According to the meteorologist, the cool air comes from between Greenland and Svalbard and will move over the Norwegian Sea, before it hits the country in the west.
The weekend weather: here it will be the worst
Worst in the west
It will then be Western Norway that will most likely suffer the worst.
- Western Norway receives the coolest and most rainfall. In Bergen on Tuesday and Wednesday, the temperature will be 12 to 13 degrees, with rain and wind. So it will be sour and cold.
In Eastern Norway, it will be better, with stays and some rain showers for the coming week.
The temperature is halved: - A real change
- It won't be particularly hot. You can be happy if it is a maximum of 20 degrees. Where there is the greatest chance of experiencing 20 degrees is east of Kristiansand and up towards Oslo.
According to Walløe, Southern Norway will be quite a bit like Eastern Norway, but with a slightly lower temperature.
- The temperature will be lower than Oslo, between 15 and 17 degrees. In some places on the southern coast where the sun peeks out, it can be between 16 and 19 degrees, he says.
Editor Notes.
Also here in SE Brazil between Rio and Sao Paulo, we have had a strange temperature range over the past 4 days from 13C to 33C, making it necessary to have two sets of clothing within reach. During this period we also had very strong winds, especially further South, destroying houses.
This is probably caused by a series of extra strong Sunspots causing magnetic heatwaves to slip into our atmosphere through an existing hole in our ozonelayer, which lies high in the atmosphere, shielding us from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays that come from the Sun, exacerbated by experimental entities like HAARP and DARPA that through their HAARP farms around the World have opened the hole further by not well-considered actions to create a weapon.

The Stratosphere
This layer is 22 miles (35 kilometers) thick. The stratosphere is where you'll find the very important ozone layer. The ozone layer helps protect us from ultraviolet radiation (UV) from the sun. In fact, the ozone layer absorbs most of the UV radiation the sun sends to us. Life as we know it wouldn't be possible without this layer of protection.
