It has long been said that as soon as winter and frost are over in Ukraine, the country's forces would launch a counter-offensive.

But now the calendar says summer and the offensive has still not taken place.

However, that may well change now, if you ask Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. Because according to the president, the country is ready to start the counter-offensive. He says so in an interview with the Wall Street Journal published on Saturday.

- We have great faith that we will succeed, he says to the American newspaper.

- I don't know how long it will take. To be honest, it can go several ways, completely different. But we will do it, and we are ready.

Ukraine's president is not the only one who has announced readiness for a Ukrainian counter-offensive. Deputy Defense Minister Volodymyr Havrylov also told Reuters on Saturday that plans for a counter-offensive were on track.

This is despite the fact that a wave of missile and air attacks has hit the country in recent weeks.

- Ukraine will start the counter-offensive with the ambition of liberating our territories this year, he says.

In the Western media, Russia's attack on Bakhmut has mainly been portrayed as a premeditated and cunning plan on the Ukrainian side to drain the opponent of soldiers. And Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin himself has admitted that 20,000 Russian soldiers were killed in the nearly 10-month campaign to capture the city. But how many Ukrainian soldiers have been killed? (around 50,000)
