It feels as if those who are put in charge of society are the ones who destabilize it. Is it due to stupidity and incompetence or is there a plan behind it? It is a question many people ask themselves.
If you look at the indicators, they are so massive that it scares people from taking it in. If those who rule are those who destabilize, anything is possible.
To stick to what is our profession, journalism, it is recognizable that the media are playing a game.
During Russiagate, it is known that when the FBI was to apply to the special court FISA for permission to monitor the Trump campaign, they mostly only had the Steele report to build on. It was a bit thin, they needed something more. How did they get it? They allowed the author, British ex-agent Christopher Steele, to give interviews to selected media.
These then wrote that "according to intelligence sources" Trump has had a connection with Putin. When it came to the press, the FBI was able to point to new sources that substantiated their claims. But it was the same source behind it. It was circular proof.
It is something of the same thing that the media is doing today, whether it concerns the green shift or the relationship with Ukraine and the war there. You ask leading questions and get the answers you want, and pretend that you have discovered something new. In reality, you follow a marked path, a script.
The public has been taken by the nose for so long that they have internalized the answers. It, therefore, feels as if they are taking part in the journey of discovery. They have the feeling of recognition. They do not discover that this is an instilled reflex.
Large parts of the public have had these notions massaged into them and they think it is their own perceptions that they have arrived at on their own. You meet people who defend NRK and NTB's worldview as if it were their own.
There is a decline in enlightenment that makes people ready for anything. Also war.
