Politicians in Austria have adopted a proposal from the government to introduce a compulsory vaccine for anyone over 18 years of age. According to the new law, those who refuse to be vaccinated will pay large fines if there are no medical reasons, or they have had covid-19 during the last six months.

It was the right-wing party ÖVP and the left-wing party The Greens who put forward the proposal for vaccine coercion. The other political parties voted in favor of the proposal. The only party that voted against was the Freedom Party. It is expected that the upper house will also approve the law, which can thus probably enter into force on 1 February.
